All right, I’m on a roll with these books, well, I guess Freida is on a roll with these books. I had ordered The Housemaid after how impressed I was with Never Lie. Now, I’ve completed The Housemaid and once again, I was flabbergasted. The character development was extraordinary, the plot was diabolical, and the ending was SO satisfying. Another page-turner I couldn’t put down, this book floored me.
Everything from the main character, Millie, to the people she works for, their background stories, and the climax that McFadden expertly sets up throughout the book are spectacular. It’s one of those books that is both entertaining and good. Now, I would love to go into detail on some of these, but I also don’t want to give away spoilers (If you want a second review that does include spoilers, comment below!). I will say if you enjoy psychological thrillers, my friend Matt was not wrong when he said Freida McFadden is a red-hot author right now. The twists and turns in her novels really keep the blood moving and it’s fantastic how everything comes together. I was two-thirds of the way through The Housemaid when I ordered the next two books in the three-book series. I knew I was going to want to read more, and after two books by McFadden that not only floored me but also left me completely satisfied with their endings, I knew I’d be reading a lot more written by her.
I just received the next two books in the series but have yet to start them. I’m sure they will both be like Never Lie and The Housemaid where I will finish them within a couple days because I won’t be able to put them down. I’m hoping that some of her skill with plots and writing will rub off on me and show up in my own!
