Start of the 2020 Baseball Season

Tomorrow marks the start of Spring Training baseball with the Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals playing at 2:05PM. I know very little about either team, but it’s the start of the baseball season so I really don’t care, so long as I get to watch baseball.

I’ve gotten more into reading up on the new developments in baseball. I’ve been reading up on the news around the league, some trades, and obviously the Astros scandal. I’ve never been one to care about what player got what contract or that aspect of the game, it’s always bored me. I want to see how guys play and how the team performs. Unfortunately in the off season, there isn’t much to see about performance so I had to see who was expected to perform well this year and who to be on the look out for.

One thing I did while I happened to be at Walgreens was pick up two baseball magazines, Street & Smith’s Baseball Yearbook and Lindy’s Baseball magazine. Both were filled with statistics, projections, and valuable information on both baseball clubs and individual players. I liked being able to get some further insight into the game that I didn’t receive as a player because I was always focused on the game, not the construction of a team or contracts.

Both magazines gave stats on current and up-and-coming players which gave insight into how the teams would likely perform this upcoming season. I got a look at the game from another perspective and really enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I read through the entire magazine and ordered a few more to gain as much knowledge as I could about the league. From minor league prospects to major league forces, the magazines gave the rundown for each club, giving predictions on their finishes, their shortcomings, and what they have to improve on in the years to come, each section dedicated to each individual teams detailed the needs of that specific team on an intricate level. I felt more knowledgeable about the current state of the MLB and it made me miss baseball like no other. So much so, I’ve reached out to two teams about playing this summer. I imagine I’ll at least play for one but if I can manage playing for two, I think I’d do it. It’ll be busy, but it’ll be good to be back out on the field.

With baseball season right around the corner, I couldn’t be more excited. I’m looking at various games I can see, what parks I want to visit, and which club is likely to become world champions come the end of October. Those baseball magazines also made me want to do more sports writing which is why I’ve enjoyed reading up on the game and have been writing more articles on the topic. If you have any topics in baseball you’d like me to hit, comment here or shoot me a message. I’m always up for ideas. For now, I’m excited for the baseball season!
