GoT: the Final Season

After the long anticipated wait, the final season of Game of Thrones is here and I couldn’t be more excited. To find out who will rule the Seven Kingdoms, how Cersei will (hopefully) die, and how the loose ends are tied up has me on edge. I started reading the first book two years ago without seeing any of the shows on a bet and there were so many characters I couldn’t keep them straight. I got about fifty pages in before I had to put the book down because I wasn’t able to keep up. After watching the series on TV, the books are much easier to read and enjoy.

My favorite character is Tyrion. His wit, individual personality, and his love of books drew me to him since the first few episodes. “A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone” is my favorite quote from him and I knew he’d be my favorite character. Unlike many around him who go to their places in life by fighting and stealing, he’s remained alive by his own ability to read, learn, and outwit others. That and his hilarious attitude at his own promiscuity is entertaining.

I like Jon Snow and Arya too, but for different reasons. They’re battle smart. Jon leads armies whereas Arya will assassinate you without ever leaving a trace of her she didn’t want to be found. She’s an absolute badass. I do think, however, Jon and Danaerys will be the two to rule Westeros or their offspring will.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and although I haven’t read that far yet, I’d be very intrigued to see how much the books and TV series differ from each other.

Who are you hoping will be the ruler of Westeros? Who do you think will end up getting the throne if the person you hope for is likely to be betrayed?

  1. I’d love for Mr. George R.R. Martin to finish the books! The suspense is killing me.

I definitely can’t wait for the season of the HBO show to start tonight even though it is bittersweet as it is the last season for our beloved characters on the small screen.

I can’t wait to find out the conclusion of the HBO series as well as the books, and I thank Mr. Martin for his truly wonderful contributions to the literary and TV worlds.

    1. Definitely! I was confused by another book being in the works while also announcing the final season of the show but now knowing they’re almost independent of each other, it makes sense. I’m so excited to see how it turns out on both ends!
