At the end of this week, I will have worked for 19 of 21 days… Don’t get me wrong, I love my job, but everyone needs time away. Due to trading some shifts and our awful schedule as it is, I’ve worked more days this month than I have in any other month this year with the least amount of days in between. This is the primary reason I haven’t been writing or reading as much. Yes, I know, every writer has a day job that they must work around and families and life but I’ve been working so much that once I get home, the only thing I want to do is either sleep or relax. The only stress reliever I’ve made time for lately is going to the gym and that’s only because I’m able to work out prior to every shift.
If I didn’t have the gym, I’d feel much more stressed than I am because I’d be feeling myself getting out of shape and losing what I’ve worked so hard for. If I didn’t have that, I would be in an awful mood and be unmotivated to do anything. The gym keeps me sane and acts like therapy outside of writing. It helps me build muscle and build upon myself.
I genuinely miss writing. I’ve been thinking about how long it’s been since I’ve written a story or had a good idea for one but haven’t had time to sit down and write one out. With everything else that’s been going on, it seems daunting to try to tackle that type of task right now. I have a long stretch left of workdays before I get a couple days off. I aim to find some time in the next few days to find some time to sit down at my computer and write. Even if it’s just a few sentences, working on Frigid Nights (soon to possibly be Sirens), or writing a blog.
I have to work a shift outside of my usual schedule today which is why I’m currently awake and able to knock this blog out to give you an update. I haven’t forgotten about you guys and I haven’t given up on writing. Not by a long shot. I’ve simply been busy with my career but still thinking about writing each and every day. I have a lot of obligations currently so it’s been hard to find some time for myself but I’ll be making time here in the next week.
I have some great ideas for stories that I will start working on shortly that I think you all will really like. They’ll give you something to think about and keep you guessing. I’ll also attempt to make them as real as I can given the genre they will be in.
